The Last Mile Project

The Last Mile Project (TLM) is a groundbreaking initiative led by the Detroit Blockchain Center, designed to empower communities to take the reins of their local economies and prioritize their unique needs. This initiative is about redefining collaboration, encouraging residents to share spaces, resources, and relationships in innovative ways. TLM equips communities with the tools and resources necessary to regain control and make impactful decisions, fostering a dynamic environment where neighbors can shape their collective future.

Initiated in 2019, TLM is a long-term commitment by the Detroit Blockchain Center, with the first tangible steps taken in 2023. This project is a testament to our dedication to community empowerment and sustainable development.

The first phase of TLM is the implementation of Althea’s KeyLTE, a comprehensive, standalone smart city infrastructure program. This program lays the foundation for a connected, intelligent community. Participation in the full Last Mile Project is optional for network members, offering flexibility and choice in how they engage with this transformative initiative. Through TLM, we’re not just bridging the digital divide, but also fostering economic growth and pioneering community-owned smart city infrastructure.

Bridging The Digital Divide

High-speed, affordable internet is essential. Yet, many SE Michigan residents, particularly in low-income areas, lack access. We’re empowering these communities to not only gain access but also control their digital futures.

Empowering Local Economies

By providing tools for community governance and commerce, we’re stimulating economic growth and self-sufficiency in SE Michigan, empowering residents to become active participants in their local economies.

Community-Owned Smart Cities

By harnessing the power of modern Web3 technologies, we’re creating a robust, decentralized network that is owned and operated by the community. A public/private ownership mixture enhances local connectivity, drives innovation, and sets the stage for a more sustainable, interconnected future.
